Whether you’re new to yoga altogether or just new to Aravind Yoga Studio the following few tips will help you find your feet as you embark on your journey with us here. After taking a few Basic Yoga classes you’ll feel more confident to start a regular yoga practice. Our staff is always available to help you select the right classes to meet your needs.
Choosing your first class –
Our Basic Yoga classes give new students at Aravind Yoga Studio the opportunity to learn the basics of yoga and yoga etiquette. We recommend all new students to attend one of our Basics classes in their first month of visiting our studio. These classes are fun and mild. Their aim is to introduce you to the practice allowing time for questions throughout.
Before your first class –
Once you’ve established a class style and a time that works with your ability level and schedule, it is important that you’ve allowed ample time to locate the studio and find parking if needed. Please arrive to your first class 15min before it starts, giving yourself time to get acquainted, meet your teacher and settle in the class.
What you’ll need –
Most importantly, an open mind and a determined attitude. If you have your own mat already, please bring it togenter with a towel. we provide water but you are welcome to bring your own. Wear comfortable clothing so that you can move and…. sweat in. We recommend fitted active gym wear, like a singlet and shorts or tights. We practice in bare feet, so please leave your shoes at the studio entrance’s shoe racks.
In the room –
Bring with you only your mat, a towel and water. Mobile phones are not allowed into the studio rooms. Position yourself in the middle of the studio as this ensures that if you are unable to see the teacher or get lost at any point of the practice, you will have students all around you to lead the way. Feel free to rest at any time throughout the class. However it is important to work within your limits and ‘listen to your body’. Handy tools like foam block, bolster and a yoga strap are available in each studio, help yourself before the class.
Facilities –
We offer shower, toilet amenities and temporary lockers for secure storage of small personal belongings during the class.
After the class –
If you borrowed one of our studio mats, please be sure to clean your mat with the spray provided and place it back on the mat rack in storage. If you have any questions, please have a chat with your teacher on your way out. Our team will be more than happy to help. Make sure you hydrate adequately with water after the class. If you experience muscular fatigue or soreness post practice, this should resolve within 48hrs as it is just a result of muscles stretching during the practice.
